Cell Phones and the Teen

The question of the times is should teenagers be allowed to carry cell phones? A survey was conducted by AT & T with parents and teenagers in New York and LA, and remarkably statistics show that 94% of the parents have consented to the use of cell phones by the teens.

Teenagers as young as 13, have started to use cell phones, though the general age is around 15. All modern teenagers cannot live by without cell phones, but a few practical guidelines should be kept in mind in their usage.

When you buy a cell phone, you pay one time. But then costs incurred for its usage must be paid every month, and this becomes a bone of contention in families. If as a parent you feel that your child must carry a cell phone, then you should also take the responsibility of paying the bills, at least till a certain point. And those teens who cannot move without their cell phones should contribute something towards the monthly bill from their allowance. This can also be the first step for a teenager to learn the management of personal financial matters.

These days camera phones are gaining a lot of popularity with the tens and the reasons are quite clear. Camera phones can bring some harmless fun to the teen’s life, it’s easy to use and one can play with its various features. The negative side with that cell phone the recurring monthly bills become a sore point. If your teenaged son or daughter sends SMS through the camera phone, then you can introduce them to the alternative of sending messages through electronic mail. You can connect the phone to the PC using a USB cable which comes with the phone, upload the pictures, and send them in a quick and easy process. Such a system based on the broadband connection, is a lot cheaper too.

It is really valuable to know that your child is safe and secure at all times. You are only to call them or they can just call you in case of any emergency. So many teenagers are also driving today, and with cell phones they can communicate with you if, suppose the tires get punctured. But then, make sure that while driving they use a cord less kit or an earpiece if they are carrying cell phones when driving.

All teenagers have a wide variety of choice making them curious, because the growth of technology has been stupendous and there seems to be no stopping. Your teen will be okay after the arguments over the first bill. They may be tactless for the first few times with their bills. Things will be normal again if you take away their cell phones for a day or two, and that will be enough to keep them within the boundaries of their personal monetary allowance
